NUESTRO PAC Launches Campaign To Expose Micah Lasher’s Record of Marginalizing Black And Latino New Yorkers

NEW YORK, NY— Today, Nuestro PAC announced a campaign to ensure voters know Assemblymember Micah Lasher’s decades-long history of undermining communities of color and working families. From his earliest days as a political operative to his current congressional campaign, Lasher has consistently built his career at the direct expense of Black and Latino New Yorkers.

 

"Micah Lasher has a lengthy and concerning track record of negatively impacting Black and Latino New Yorkers. He acted as an advocate for stop-and-frisk, defending policies that led to the harassment, humiliation, and detention of hundreds of thousands of Black and Latino men throughout New York City," said a spokesperson for Nuestro PAC. “That wasn't a youthful mistake—it was the foundational blueprint for his entire career.”

 

“As an architect of the Tier 6 pension system, Lasher made it significantly harder for unionized public servants to retire with dignity. Furthermore, his leadership of the Republican-aligned organization StudentsFirstNY earned him fierce opposition from labor leaders which has repeatedly called out Lasher’s anti-union agenda.

 

Worse, New York City could have made history by electing Fernando 'Freddy' Ferrer as our first Latino mayor, but Micah Lasher launched his political career by making sure Latinos never got that opportunity. He operated in the shadows to flood wealthy, white neighborhoods with racially divisive mailers designed to weaponize fear against a Latino candidate. 

 

Bottom line: Lasher has spent his life treating our communities not as constituencies to serve, but as collateral damage for his own ambition. Whether it is pushing policies that profile Black and Latino youth or stripping retirement dignity from union workers, his record is clear. It is time we expose him for the fraud that he is."

 

Nuestro PAC’s outreach will focus on educating voters about Lasher’s consistent targeting of vulnerable communities and working-class families, specifically highlighting:

 

Defending Stop-and-Frisk: Lasher served as a chief defender of stop-and-frisk policies that harassed, humiliated, and detained hundreds of thousands of innocent Black and Latino men on the streets of New York.

 

Anti-Union Record: As a Tier 6 pension architect, Lasher undermined retirement for unionized public servants. His leadership of StudentsFirstNY also drew sharp criticism from the New York City teachers union for his anti-union agenda.

 

Weaponizing Race Against Freddy Ferrer: Lasher orchestrated the distribution of racist political cartoons during the 2001 mayoral race to intentionally fracture the multiracial coalition building behind Ferrer.
